How
does CipherSend work?
For a detailed
explanation of how it works, go to our How
It Works page, but the quick and easy answer is
that when you sign up for CipherSend, we send you the link
codes to place on your website and emails. When a client or
patient sends you a file using your CipherSend
link, it is sent via a secure connection to our secure server.
An email - along with any message from the sender - is
forwarded to your email address. You simply click on
the emailed link and enter your CipherSend login and password to open it.
Can
we use the same account for several people in our office?
A CipherSend account can only be connected to one specific
email address since it requires a separate encryption code
for each address. However, if your primary need is to
remove email addresses off your website and not security for
every employee, you can connect CipherSend to just one
contact address in your office and anyone who needs to
receive something securely can have it sent to that
CipherSend account.
How
secure is CipherSend?
CipherSend uses 128 bit SSL encryption which is the
standard used by banks and other financial institutions.
Do
I really need encryption? Isn't that only for the
Defense Department?
Many people get
intimidated by the word encryption, but on the internet,
"secure" and "encrypted" mean the same
thing. When you logon to your bank's website with your
user name and password, you are sending your information to
them encrypted. You don't see that encryption and
neither does your client, associate or patient when you use
CipherSend.
Can
I use CipherSend to send files back to my associates,
clients or patients securely?
Yes! You will
be sent a CipherSend link of your own to send files securely to
any email address. Since your associates, patients or
clients may not be members of CipherSend, you will need to enter a password that
they will need in order to open the file. Most
people enter their client's name or some other easily
remembered password, but if you're going to be sending files
back and forth to your client routinely, it will probably be
best to have your client sign up with CipherSend. If
you are sending CipherSend files to other members, they will
simply use their own login to retrieve them and not need your
password.
You
claim that CipherSend will protect me from spam and
viruses. How?
Whenever you place an email address on your website - even
if it is buried in the coding of a contact form - it is
vulnerable to theft by automated spambots sent out by
unsavory characters around the world. These spambots
scan website coding across the internet looking for email addresses.
There is almost a 100% certainty that an email address
posted on a website will eventually be stolen - probably
numerous times. When you
replace your email address or contact form with a CipherSend button, there
is no longer an address to steal. Your email address
is stored securely on our server and even people who click
your button to send you a message will never see it or have
access to it.
Can
people use my CipherSend account to send me spam?
Unlike unprotected email addresses, the CipherSend server
requires that a "spam protection code" be entered
with every single message that comes through. That
doesn't ensure that someone can't "spam" you with
an unsolicited advertisement, but they will have to be
patient enough to send their spam one message at a time to
every recipient - not a likely or profitable endeavor for
most spammers.
What
if I don't receive a CipherSend message sent from my
website?
CipherSend is vastly superior to an email address or contact
form on your website because unlike regular email or contact
forms, CipherSend always emails a
verification message to the sender so that he or she can
click on it to verify whether or not you received it.
Whenever you receive a message sent to you via CipherSend,
you should always click on the verification link to let the
sender know that his or her message was received.
Why
is CipherSend better than having a secure login on my
website to trade files?
With CipherSend, you never have to deal with the hassle of
giving out user names and passwords. No one likes
having to remember more passwords - not you and not
your clients and associates. With CipherSend, people
just click your button and
send you messages and files securely without needing a
password or login!
Will
CipherSend send messages and files securely to anyone?
You can send secure files to anyone with an email
address. However, if the recipient is not a
registered CipherSend member, you will need to give him or
her the password you used to encrypt your file or
message.
Do
I need to know if my recipient is a CipherSend member?
No. All you need to do is enter the recipient's email
address and CipherSend will check with our server to determine if that individual is a
CipherSend member. If the recipient is a member, the
message will be encrypted with his or her own login
information. If the recipient is not a member, he or
she will need to know the password you used to send the
file.
